The Owner, the Key and the Drive

If money was no object, and you could pick one car in the whole world that’s yours to keep, what kind of car would you love to have? Can you see yourself in a top class, state of the art, sleek body design kind of car. Or are you a classic old school, long and wide body, low rider, defined edges kind of car person at heart. What about a drop top, curvy, shiny exterior, pin stripes, leather seating sports package with wood grain highlights on the interior, not to mention cute shaped headlights and a sparkling front grill and rims to complete it… Yes, I’m still talking about cars…lol…Picture it…

Picture it customized too to your specifications. What would be your pick?

Oh So many cars to choose from.

Now picture that you actually never get behind the wheel of that car, but instead, you are that car. Made and designed by the owner for the owner. Custom exterior, high-performance engine, and an intricate interior. All the nuts, bolts, washers, and every single part has a purpose and a function all leading to one goal; Drive.

When the owner gets behind the wheel, with the original key and turns the ignition; like that tv commercial, it can roar like a lion or purr like a kitten.

But what if it doesn’t start at all. What if you just get that ticking sound or squeals as it tries desperately to turn over but fails time after time again. What if a thief came and gave you some false hope with a quick fix and a hot wire and then stole you away. There you are with a driver who claims to own you, generic parts, exposed to the harsh changes of the environment, going places that you’ve never thought you’d be. In need of care, genuine love and a way out.

Although your true owner is always thinking of you, the truth is, the owner’s work must go on. He must choose another who can Drive in your absence. He must get into a car that will Drive. After all, time waits for no man. No matter how much it hurts to see you in your condition or to know that you are out there somewhere, how can he be in control of a car who is null to the turn of the original key.

That Owner is God. The Key is Jesus and the Drive is allowing the Holy Spirit to stir and to guide us to do the will of God. When God enters our lives, he does so through his son Jesus, whom he sent to lay down his life as the ultimate sacrifice to give us eternal life. “He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” 1 John 2:2NIV

The starting of the ignition symbolizes that we have a choice to make to turn our hearts to him.  The bible says “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20KJV.  No matter who we are we have a purpose in life and no one can truly guide us through to our purpose than the creator, the patent maker, the owner himself. “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ,…” Ephesians 1:4-5NIV.  He chose us first.

How amazing it is to know that we are chosen, we didn’t just happen, we don’t just exist, we are not nobodys; God’s amazing love, through his son Jesus Christ has made us son’s and daughters of the Most High God, who thought of us even before the creation of the world.  We are here because he wanted us here. And what can top that?

Just thinking of the way our body’s work, our muscles, eyes, nose, mouth, bones, joints, organs, etc.; it’s really not that hard to see where man copied such an ultimate operational masterpiece called our body to muster up the makeup of a car.  So many different looks, shapes, and designs, but all the same core operations… headlights, engine, exhaust, fuel intake, etc. Like the features in the car, we are created with so much built into us; things we haven’t even tapped into because we have not discovered it yet.  But God has provided us with the instruction manual, the Bible, and with the Holy Spirit he will give us the understanding to illuminate or bring alive, the revelation of his word. “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” Hebrews 4:12NIV

Whoever or whatever you allow to get behind the wheel (your heart) and drive is what you’ve given control over your life.  “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?…” 1 Corinthians 6:19NIV. No matter what we do, we must know this, the bible says…”…You are not your own; you were bought at a price…” 1 Corinthians 6:19NIV

So with the Owner, and the Key, we are left with the option to Drive. Will you?

Be Blessed,

G.M.
