“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Joshua 1:9 KJV
This is one of the most encouraging scriptures that I’ve read.
He has not given us but commanded us to be Strong and Courageous. We can’t be a weak in God’s Kingdom. God is not a weak God and he is not a coward. If he said it he will do it and it will come to pass.
We all know what strong is but courage… According to google dictionary, Courage is the ability to do something that Frightens one; it is strength in the face of pain or grief.
Courage is as one would say to a hot looking outfit ‘Bad’. When we think of ourselves we don’t know what we’re looking at. But when we look at our father, if we are of him then we are a direct reflection of him; Strong and Courageous.
The bible says be not Afraid or Dismayed. So we have Strong and Courageous vs Afraid or Dismayed hmmm, quite the toss-up. Can’t help looking at the word dismayed though. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, Dismay is to cause the loss of courage because of alarm or fear.
So according to the definitions. Courage defines Strength and Dismay defines Afraid. Let me read that verse again…”Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Joshua 1:9 KJV
So the bible is telling us don’t just be strong but let it also be defined through your life. Do not be afraid and definitely don’t let alarm and fear cause you loose courage. Wait a minute, I forgot something… The definition of courage is the ability to do something that Frightens one; it is strength in the face of pain or grief. Let’s look at the verse backwards… God is saying Don’t let alarm and fear cause YOU to loose courage but instead let it cause Others to SEE YOUR STRENGTH. It doesn’t define you, you define it. Wow. This is truly amazing. Doubt, sadness, discouragement… be gone in the name of Jesus. Courage we welcome you with Joy.
Finally the verse says “…for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1:9 KJV
Remember that he is with you wherever you go. Even when you feel alone, you are not. Whenever we say the words ” I feel alone” could you imagine how it makes God feel. He who said in his word that ‘he is with us wherever we go’. Saying that we feel alone or we are alone tells God that we don’t acknowledge that he’s there. Wow. Lord forgive me for everytime that I have made you feel that way, separating the connection we have.
Words to remember… It is God that we draw our strength from, it is he who commands us to have courage. No less is expected of us as Children of the Most High.
Be of Courage,
G.M.
When we tell others to be en-couraged, do we really know what we’re telling them? This gives new meaning to it. Next time you say it to someone, Say it with Power, say it with Conviction, say it with Joy. 😃
