There’s been a Technicality

So there I was standing next to the officer in front of the judge. Head held high, face firm and not a blink in sight. “Hmmm Restricted road?” the Judge rumbled under his breath as he grabbed his book of maps and started skimming through the pages. Looking up briefly he said “Officer, state your case…” as he dug back quickly into his maps and several other books. I stood still as a tree waiting patiently quiet as the officer recited words without so much as a breath in between; as if he was reading off a book in his brain. My eyes were glued to the judge in front of me. He was doodling. So clean, so precise….what is he doing, I thought to myself. This is fascinating. Trying to make sense or images out of it, I thought..hmmm that looks like an electric pole, that looks like….maybe…uh…I don’t know… cool… I thought to myself. The words of the officer seemed to fade as background noise as I wondered, is this what the judge does when he’s bored throughout the day or does this actually mean something. My eyes glanced over at the clerk reading her book with her back turned to the judge. Maybe they are bored… I focused my eyes back to the judge… Is he trying to recreate the scene in his mind or is this a judges way of shorthand. Hmmm, interesting. Stopped in the track of my thought the background ramble faded; the officer had finally stopped talking and slightly rocking back and forth. The judge looked up, “Why does this ticket state that this is a restricted road?” the judge asked the officer as he quickly continued his doodles, continually glancing at the books. The officer stated that he was having issues with his machine when he put the code in but assured the judge that it was the right code. The judge never looked up and didn’t respond. Finally, he closed the books and stopped doodling. Looking up at me he said “you don’t have to say a thing… Your testimony is not required, whether what the officer stated is true or not I’m dismissing this ticket based on the technicality that it states you were driving on a restricted road. Please see the front desk for your bond money back. With a straight face forcing not to show my joy I said “Thank you” and in my heart ‘Thank you Jesus’ and headed out.

It is so with God. We mess up sometimes but the Lord knows our heart. The countless times we spend wasted in worry or nervousness about the outcome, we forget that we ought to walk into the courtroom victorious that our battle is already won. Why? Because there’s been a technicality.  Hallelujah! We have an advocate that has already made the sacrifice for our sin and paid the price. So no matter what charge the enemy brings to God about you (Remember, it was the Judges love for you that sent you that advocate in the first place, and who in turn left you the comforter; so you’ll always have the upper hand 3 to 1), know that Jesus is standing in your place so you don’t have to defend yourself. He will fight for you. As children of God, we must remember that we will make mistakes and that’s when the Lord steps up to wipe our slate clean. For who needs an advocate if they are spotless. Instead, it is the other way around.  It is the spotless lamb, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that is the advocate for us.

“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.” 1 John 2:1‭-‬3 KJV

Thank you Jesus, for being my advocate; for sin cannot wash away sin, nor darkness wash away the night, neither can I, a sinner, save myself from the price of sin. Thank you Lord for Salvation. Thank you for your Sacrifice of such great love for me.

Amen.
