According to Merriam-Webster.com, Wait means “to stay in place in expectation“. Hope means “to desire with expectation of obtainment or fulfillment; to expect with confidence“. Trust means “assured
The bible says:
The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;
Lamentations 3:25 NIV (This means to HAVE expectation as you seek him)
The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
Lamentations 3:25 KJV (This means to STAY in expectation as you seek him)
We cannot seek the Lord without having and staying (hoping and waiting) in expectation of him. And in order to maintain that expectation we must rely on who God is and depend on his promise (trust).
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord , “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
God’s plans for us are not the same as the plans we have for ourselves. Our plans are not always seen through, they seldom bring prosperity and they don’t always end well; in fact half the times those plans are either filled with overconfidence or much uncertainty.
But, God’s plans are Promises. And Promises of God are always come to pass because they are guaranteed. “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV
That’s why we say Amen, because we are acknowledging and accepting the Promise of God that what he said he will do, he has already done it. Why is it already done? Because he is the beginning and the end. The bible says “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord , thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
Jeremiah 29:11 KJV
“An expected end”. God does not have to guess about our future. It is already done, we just haven’t lived through it yet. How great it is to have a father who can direct us confidently because he already knows our future. How confident we must be to know that we have promises in store for us and all we have to do is walk in
him and we will automatically walk into it.
“Now Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see”. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Hebrews 11:1, 6 NIV
So to SEEK God we must have (Hope) expectation. We must stay (Wait) in that expectation. We must Trust in who God is and we must have Faith in that we do not see.
