“for He delivered us and saved us and called us with a holy calling [a calling that leads to a consecrated life—a life set apart—a life of purpose], not because of our works [or because of any personal merit—we could do nothing to earn this], but because of His own purpose and grace [His amazing, undeserved favor] which was granted to us in Christ Jesus before the world began [eternal ages ago],” 2 Timothy 1:9 AMP
God has a purpose and a plan for our lives and it is not to remain where we are. His plans are to give us a good future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). And although the life of purpose that he has set apart for us was not earned because of our works, he knows that because he has given us a mind of our own and freedom to use it, that we would have dreams, desires, aspirations and plans. So he asks that if we want his blessing and for him to establish our plans, that we should commit our works to him (Proverbs 16:3).
Isn’t it amazing that the God of all creation has not only set aside a life for us and great plans for us but he gives us the privilege to include our desires in our future as well. Psalm 37:4-7 AMP says “Delight yourself in the Lord , And He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord ; Trust in Him also and He will do it. He will make your righteousness [your pursuit of right standing with God] like the light, And your judgment like [the shining of] the noonday [sun]. Be still before the Lord ; wait patiently for Him and entrust yourself to Him; Do not fret (whine, agonize) because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.” Psalms 37:4-7 AMP
When we commit our way to God, it means that we are walking in his light, obeying his statutes, following his precepts, bearing fruits of his spirit. So when it comes to our desires, God is for us and not against us, because we are for him. God is a God of precise timing, so patience and complete trust is required. Can we take the time to be still before the Lord, not comparing our lives and what God is doing with the prosperity of others? Do we believe that we will not remain where we are but that God will lead us forward and will do mighty things in due time if we trust in him?
If we believe that then say Amen, because it is already done.
[“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.] Isaiah 55:9-11 NKJV
