The Pigs Perspective

“The demons begged Jesus, “If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.” He said to them, “Go!” So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.”
Matthew 8:31‭-‬32 NIV

Have you ever been in the position where, like the pigs, you were minding your own business consumed in the daily cares of life and all of a sudden your mind and spirit were attacked by the enemy causing you so much tribulation that you felt like you were heading straight for a cliff?

Believe it or not, demons have to ask God’s permission to take hold of you because they don’t have the authority to do so on their own. So if God allowed it, what is the real issue?

The bible says ““Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”
Luke 21:34‭-‬36 NIV

The bible says…

“Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding.”
Matthew 8:30 NIV

Large herd means distraction. How can we be on watch if we surround ourselves in the constant company of life’s distractions. On top of that how can we be able to escape when we are feeding (our head is down) in the midst of distraction.

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 KJV. “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.” Colossians 2:6‭-‬8 NIV

My prayer: Lord help me to not be so caught up in the issues of life that I myself become also as one of the issues, feeding on the same things that consumes my attention. Help me to not loose sight on you and not to be consumed in the common desires of this world that I’m caught offguard and unprepared to acknowledge the way that you have laid for me to escape in times of trouble. Help me to desire a closer relationship and walk with you. Help me to “…lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord…” Psalms 121:1-2 KJV

Amen
